We are also trying extra taping in the door step well. A lovely young Melbourne couple we have been following around for a few days gave us some tape they didn't need. We were nearly out. Hopefully we'll catch up in the next few days after we get to a shop or pub so we can repay them with a bottle of champagne.
We are still heading north about 80km to Towns River. Had a 40km round trip detour to check out Limmen Bight fishing camp. On the way in we met an old aboriginal man on a quad bike travelling in the opposite direction. We stopped to chat. His name was Jacob Riley and he was the Elder of the Mara people who was responsible for that area. He had heard his foot and was on his way to get picked up and taken in to Borroloola to the clinic. He had a roll of toilet paper on the front of the bike and his "rations" wrapped in brown paper on the back. We had a great chat.
The fishing camp is a very basic site on the beautiful Cox River. We stopped for morning tea under a tree on the river bank and watched an aboriginal family bring a boat onto a sandbank in the middle of the river. The dad was casting a net, probably for bait fish.
The road is still ordinary, but the tyres are holding out. Here is some "road kill" we encountered on the way.
We arrived at Towns River, a lovely wide river, where we were told you could camp on a wall above the river - well out of croc reach. When we arrived there were already 4 vans and 2 camper vans in that spot. It was rocky with no shade. We camped further up the hill in the bush - much quieter and nicer. Who needs to see the river anyway!
